With more and more individuals and communities starting their own vodcast production, we see a good and healthy trend growing. This also shows that the Social Media scene in Singapore is finally picking up. It’s interesting to see everyone’s take and interpretations on the latest 3 hottest show in town – Small Girl Big Appetite, Lunch with Yebber and Sweets.sg.

Personally, I would like to share my humble opinions and views on the above 3 shows.

Small Girl Big Appetite – Produced by Miccheng from Podfire.sg, affilated with Media360

Their main target audience seem to be very much to the bloggers themselves. Being under the Podfire’s umbrella, this show seem to be a by-product after their first failed attempt with Bloggers Treat. But again, two shows seem to have a different agenda and approach. Personally, the host for SGBA is more vocal but the concept of having guest blogger appearing in Bloggers Treat would probably attract more eyeballs from the blogging community.

My take on Podfire’s initiatives is that they are trying to become a content provider for the video and podcast communities in Singapore. Perhaps a competitor to Podcast.sg? Or maybe with goals to become the Asia Revision3 in the future? We don’t know. Being somehow or rather related to Media360, which is a dynamic display supplier, providing hi-tech customizable solutions for both outdoor and indoor advertising, I see Podfire being the production department for Media360. How effective it is at this content providing area, we will have to wait and see. But as mentioned by Podfire, they’re now showing SGBA on one of the dynamic displays inside The Heeren. How many passerby stood and watch the show, we’re not sure too. But is this effective in promoting the show? Perhaps not.

Sidenote: They might want to look at Yebber’s and Sweets.sg’s post production work. Which IMHO is way better than SGBA. But still, SGBA is a job well done.

Lunch with Yebber – Produced by Claudia Lim and Darren Chang from Yebber.com

Yebber.com started off as a user-generated content site where anyone can post reviews on almost any businesses in Singapore. I would say Yebber is a very unique site which has pretty good prospect if given the right tools and investments. When they first announced the launch of their show, I was pretty excited to watch it. Especially after the massive discussions and dramas on blogs for the earlier launched Bloggers Treat. Comparing the two, I have to say Yebber has a better concept and idea of what they want to achieve.

Their main target audience is perhaps the general public. They are more focused on promoting the places and their food, instead of building up the bloggers awareness of the hosts. Besides introducing the places to go, they did add in self-promoting elements in the show. Having the hosts talk about Yebber and what it does. However, I feel that it might be better for them to publish their work on YouTube if their objective is to market Yebber.com. Why post videos that’s to promote Yebber on the site itself? Shouldn’t they try to reach out to the masses out there, like on YouTube?

I see that they are trying to create more content for their users on their site. I think they should probably look into investing more time and effort on getting the words out to more people that’s still not spending their time online yet. It’s pointless to have such good product but hidden and not known to the masses out there.

Sidenote: This is one of the better produced show. However there’s still lots of room for improvements.

Sweets.sg – Produced by Jayden and Nadia (personal project)

Sweets.sg by far received the most number of thumbs up and support from many people for its debut episode. Not surprising to me, since Jayden and Nadia already have very good reputations in the blog sphere prior the show. Its a perfect blend of personality, popularity and creativity.

Being a personal project, by bloggers for the blogging community, I foresee this show beating the above two hands down. The post processing is very creative and almost professional. With a better quality video camera, I’m sure they will be able to produce excellent products for everyone.

However, I wonder how long Sweets will be able to sustain since it has no business plan in place. Will it continue to be a fun project for Jayden and Nadia, or would they have plans to expand and explore possibilities out there.

Or maybe Podfire or Yebber might consider hiring the two for their future productions?

Till I post again…

    Hi there!

Thanks for supporting Blogger’s Sweets! For now, we’ve decided to concentrate on producing quality vodcasts but we’ll definitely consider the opportunities available! (and hopefully be able to get a good camcorder!)

    Keep watching Blogger’s Sweets! :)
