The War Between Bloggers
Just a quick thought on the recent childish war which DK started on his blog. I just can’t help but think if he was just trying to gain more eyeball to his blog so that people will vote for him as the most Insightful Blog Award by Omy, which by the way, he has lost his fight as of now.
And it seems to me, as a 3rd party, that DK is also ruining his image as a TOP Blogger as given the title by The New Socialite recently. If Ping.sg is one of the better, to me one of the best blog community in Singapore, isn’t it silly for him to try form an “Out” group on his own instead of staying within the community as a whole?

What’s in for them anyway?
Sex. Scandals. Politics. War. Fights. Gossips… and much more. These are the most read and talked about topic in the local communities. Yes?
No! I personally don’t feel that way. All the above topics are discussed by the wannabes. Yes, that’s how I would like to call them. They’re either deprived of sex and hence tries to release their fantasy in blogs and forums, since mIRC is almost non-existence these days for them to chat with the sweet-young-things, or these people are simply too cocky and has too much a mind of their own. They hate to be left out in the popular or happening group of the community and feel defensive when things aren’t going as they’d wanted it to be.

My co-writer Nev Ang, wrote about the Singapore Blog Awards and he has shortlisted the best ones he felt out of each category (except for the local and overseas celebrity categories). I only got to scan through the list of nominees yesterday and I was surprised. Having received an average of 100+ nominees for each category and weeks to go through the shortlisting, this is what they came up with?
Sure, there may be some gems amongst the finalists but there is only one or two in every category. I do not speak for everyone but I think most will find a clear winner in each category if the award is given to the most deserving. The breakdown of the judging criteria is as such on omy.
‘Voting’ only takes up 30% of the scores. 70% of the points is for the judges at omy to decide. What does that mean to me? If the tastes of the judges on blogs can only bring one or two good blogs to each category, I seriously doubt they can crown a deserving winner.
In summary?
- Little competition as the finalists are not deserving.
- The public has little say in this contest as our votes only make up 30%.
- Omy has the power to unsettle the popular blogs with 70% of the marks in their pockets.
It’s either going to be a walkover for some of the categories or the judges with bad tastes will crown winners that will make us wonder in incredulity.
Doomed to fail? I await with great interest.
